Real SQL skills,
built from real experience
SQLMarrow was born from 6+ years of working with databases — and the frustration of watching talented students struggle because no platform gave them real problems to solve.
The person behind the platform
SQLMarrow isn't a startup with a team of investors — it's one developer who got tired of watching students learn SQL the wrong way.
With 6+ years of hands-on experience across MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server, and PostgreSQL, Vijay has built production systems, debugged queries at 3am, and seen exactly where developers get stuck.
Beyond databases, he's a full-stack developer working with PHP and .NET — which means SQLMarrow is built by someone who uses SQL every day, not just writes about it.
His frustration was simple: students were learning SQL through static slides and copy-paste exercises. They'd never touched a real schema, written a query under pressure, or understood why a JOIN works. So he built the platform he wished had existed when he was starting out.
"A student from Kathmandu deserves the same SQL education as someone from Silicon Valley. No paywalls, no subscriptions — just real problems, real data, and a path to a real career."— Vijay Kumar Anand, Founder of SQLMarrow
Three problems this platform solves
Every design decision on SQLMarrow comes from watching real students get stuck at the same points, over and over.
Textbooks don't prepare you for interviews
SQL courses teach syntax. Jobs test you on window functions, CTEs, and query performance on messy, real-world data. SQLMarrow bridges that gap with case studies from companies like Uber, Netflix, and Amazon.
You can't learn SQL without running SQL
Reading about JOINs doesn't teach JOINs. Every lesson on SQLMarrow puts you in a live sandbox with real seed data — no setup, no installs, just write and run.
Great resources are locked behind paywalls
The best SQL platforms charge $20–$50/month. For a CS student in Nepal or India, that's a real barrier. SQLMarrow is, and will always be, completely free. Ad-supported, community-driven, open to everyone.
Built for the people just getting started
SQLMarrow is designed for anyone who wants a career where data matters — which is almost every career in tech.
CS Students
Prepare for university exams, placements, and your first internship. Our exam bank covers normalization, transactions, ER diagrams, and more.
Aspiring Data Analysts
Go from zero to writing real business queries. Aggregations, joins, window functions — with actual e-commerce and customer data.
Developers
Already coding but weak on databases? SQLMarrow covers the SQL that backend developers actually need: indexing, query optimization, schema design.
Interview Preppers
Practice the exact style of SQL questions asked at Google, Meta, and Amazon — timed, graded, with automated feedback on performance.
How SQLMarrow came to be
Not a venture-funded startup — a side project that turned into something real.
6 years in the trenches
Vijay works across MySQL, PostgreSQL, and MS SQL Server on real production systems — e-commerce, business applications, data pipelines. He learns what actually matters and what textbooks get wrong.
Watching students struggle with the wrong things
Teaching and mentoring reveals a pattern: students memorize syntax but can't query a real schema. No platform gives them actual data to work with, actual errors to fix, actual business problems to solve.
SQLMarrow is born
Built with a browser-based SQLite sandbox, real seed datasets, and content structured around career outcomes — not just topic checklists. Partnered with LGBS and TechnoLila for early distribution.
10,000+ developers and growing
New lessons weekly. University exam bank expanding. Case studies, certifications, and tools — all free. The mission stays the same: give every student the SQL education they deserve, regardless of where they are.
